TheOldMan

Who am I?

A Husband – to the most wonderful, loving, caring, amazing woman in the world.

A Father – to 6 kids (no – not all of them by “blood” – but they are all MINE!  Don’t believe me, attempt to hurt one and find out!)

A Grandfather – to 5 kids (same story as the kids).

A Christian – though not one of those that will thump you over the head with a Bible.  It’s not my job to “beat you up with Scripture” – but it is my job to love you, care about you, and show you a path to my Father in Heaven through the love and sacrifice of His Son on the cross. I am not perfect – just forgiven.  After a few years – and multiple schools – I was duly ordained as a minister.  To date – I do an occasional sermon, but spend most of my “ministry time” performing weddings, christenings, baptisms, and providing funeral services.  Through these services – and real life ministries (working with homeless veterans, etc.) – I fulfill my calling.

A Veteran – having served a combined 12 years in the US Army Reserve and CT Army National Guard.  Joined at 17.  Desert Shield/Storm Veteran. American Legion member.

A Programmer – for over 30 years – in multiple languages, frameworks, platforms.

A Computer Geek – if bits flow through it, I am “into it”.

A Gamer – board games, tabletop games, RPG, computer gaming, console gaming.  Every year – I participate in ExtraLife 4 Kids!

A Musician – guitar player – though I can appreciate good music from multiple genres and instruments.

A Singer – country mostly – though you can throw in some Buffett and some classic rock in there too.

A Sound Guy – because who knows better how to make others sound good than another musician/audiophile?

A Songwriter – though I haven’t had the time to write in many years now.

An Actor – though, again, that was MANY moons ago!

A Storyteller – and they nearly always come from real life experiences!

A Comedian – You just can’t make this kind of stuff up (real life experiences again)!

A Renaissance Man!  Yes – I am “multifaceted”.  I have a penchant for things medieval – with a serious electronic bent.

The closest thing I have ever seen are the “Techno Mages” from the Babylon 5 TV Series.  That could be why my email signature block has this as its tagline:

“We are dreamers, shapers, singers, and makers. We study the mysteries of laser and circuit, crystal and scanner, holographic demons and invocations of equations. These are the tools we employ, and we know many things.” – Elric

I can, also, relate to Tyrion Lannister (Game of Thrones – Google it if you haven’t watched/read it).

“That’s what I do.  I drink – and I know things” – Tyrion

And, now that you have managed to wade through ALL of this – you still have only the “tip of the iceberg” when it comes to who/what I am.
